Archive of superseded versions of the
EPSG geodetic parameter dataset

Beginning with Version 5.3 and Version 6.1, all versions of the EPSG dataset will remain publicly available. These superseded databases may be downloaded below. They are distributed in MS Access 97 (as a zipped file, complete with its documentation), but can be converted to MS Access 2000 or MS Access 2003. From version 6.4 SQL scripts were also available. These versions of the dataset have all been superseded. The current version is downloadable from here.

6.11.2

October 2006

The version 6.11 and 6.11.1 EPSG releases in August 2006 and October 2006 were superseded by v6.11.2. As there was minimal changes in the data content over these three versions and the period for which the earlier versions were available were short, the earlier 6.11.x datasets are not being made available for archival download.

6.10.2

June 2006

The version 6.10 and 6.10.1 EPSG releases in April 2006 and May 2006 were superseded by v6.10.2. There were no changes in the data content over these three versions, with the improvements made only to the SQL scripts. Since no data was added, the earlier 6.10.x datasets are not being made available for archival download.

June 2004

The version 6.5, 6.5.1 and 6.5.2 EPSG releases in the months prior to the release of v6.5.3 were superseded by v6.5.3. There were no changes in the data content over these four versions, with the improvements made only to the SQL scripts. Since no data was added between these earlier 6.5.x releases and v6.5.3, the earlier 6.5.x datasets are not being made available for archival download.

6.2.2

September 2002

Version 6.2 and 6.2.1 EPSG releases in the two months prior to the release of v6.2.2, were superseded by v6.2.2. There were no significant changes in the data over these three versions, with the improvements made primily in coding behind the forms to assist MS Access 2000 users in converting the database. Since no significant data was added between these releases the v6.2 and v6.2.1 datasets are not being made avaiable for archival download.

6.1

February 2002

Version 6.1 represented numerous modifications from the previous Version 5.x. The data model underwent a number of changes to ensure compliance with ISO 19111 Spatial Referencing by Coordinates. Table structure and relationships were affected. Many terms in use by ISO are not in common usage in the oil industry and the GIS community at large.

5.3

February 2002

v5.3 data content is the same as v6.1. Two versions of the dataset were released in parallel to allow for migration between the v5 and v6 datamodels. An MS Excel spreadsheet detailing the details of the changes from the v5 to the v6 model is included within the v5.3 and v6.1 download files. Changes are too numerous to detail here, so users of the previous EPSGv5.x database who need this information are encouraged to review the spreadsheet and relationship diagrams for a better understanding. Links to the Relationship Diagrams for each of versions 5 and 6 are given to the right.

More on Version 5 to Version 6:

As mentioned above, rather comprehensive changes in terminology, table structure and relationships to match ISO 19111 Spatial Referencing by Coordinates. Some key mappings are:

  1. "Coordinate Systems" in v5.x are now "Coordinate Reference Systems" in v6.x. In v6.x the term "Coordinate System" is used in a different, more limited context.
  2. "Coordinate Transformations" in v5.x (including Map Projections and Geodetic Transformation are now "Coordinate Operations" in v.6.
  3. The various types of Datums in separate tables in v5 are handled in a single Datum table, with an additional field to distinguish "Datum Type".

These are given only as examples and by no means cover all the changes. See the Version 5 to 6 spreadsheet and the data model Entity Relationship Diagrams for a fully detailed mapping of terminology.
